It is certainly my hope that those in leadership, both national and local, will exhibit more wisdom and selflessness than I see in myself. But regardless of the decisions made “on high”, I remain responsible for my choices. I remain responsible to be honest with myself, to carefully examine the “stories” I carry around with me, and to welcome truth in whatever form it appears. I remain responsible to be a truly critical thinker, not someone who spreads unfounded rumors because that takes less work (and can be far more interesting in the moment!). I remain responsible to stand firm when I believe I am right, and still be open to my own short-sightedness.
I can promise that I will fail. And I will wake the next morning grateful for the opportunity to begin anew. I pray that each day of 2017 will deepen me and continue to show that I AM equipped to do the work that I was uniquely created to do.
I humbly invite you to join me in a personal inauguration this Friday. I invite you to stand and place your hand upon that which is sacred to you. Promise to try to move from pettiness to depth, from selfishness to service, and from fear to freedom. I would love to know your thoughts, your successes, and your struggles. No need to worry about judgement: you’re in good company!
